Surgeons dwell on advanced spine surgery practices

The Department of Orthopaedics, in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy, organised the first cadaveric spine course on Sunday.

The Department of Orthopaedics at Government Medical College (GMC) Amritsar, in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy, organised the First Cadaveric Amritsar Spine Course under the auspices of the North Zone Orthopaedic Association on Sunday.

Dr Rajesh Kapila, Professor and Head of the Department of Orthopaedics and the organising chairperson of the event, said the course attracted renowned faculty and delegates from across North India, including participants from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi.

Eminent spine surgeons including Dr Arun Bhanot, Dr T Barua, Dr Gururaj, Dr Rohit Jindal, Dr Dushyant Thaman, Dr Veushj Sharma, Dr Aishwarya Mehra, Dr Mukul Sharma and Dr Bias Sharma delivered lectures on various aspects of spine surgery, providing invaluable insights into the latest techniques and best practices in the field.

The course was inaugurated by Dr Rajiv Devgan, Director Principal of GMC, who emphasised the significance of practical workshops in enhancing the surgical skills of young doctors. Dr AS Bakshi, President of the North Zone Orthopaedic Association, also praised the efforts of the Orthopaedics Department for successfully organising the event.

A key feature of the course was the cadaveric workshop, where participants received hands-on training in simulating live surgeries on cadavers. More than 80 delegates took part in the workshop, which offered a unique opportunity for both academic learning and practical experience in spine surgery.

The event marked an important milestone for the medical community in the region, providing essential learning opportunities for aspiring surgeons and promoting the exchange of knowledge in the field of orthopaedics.
