In his address, Simranjit Singh, District Sanitation Officer, emphasised the importance of water conservation and the use of rainwater for irrigation. He also discussed proper waste management, highlighting the need for effective collection, treatment and disposal of waste to reduce environmental and health hazards. Special emphasis was laid on segregating waste at the household level and implementing advanced waste treatment methods at landfills.

He informed the audience that the administration is working towards setting up Plastic Management Units at the block level in all eight blocks of the district. For this purpose, Rs 1.26 crore has already been released.

The event also promoted tree plantation as a key measure to protect the environment. As a symbolic gesture to discourage the use of plastic, cloth bags were distributed as gifts to the attendees, reinforcing the message to say no to single-use plastics.
