The police on Saturday booked five members of a family for abducting a teenage girl on the pretext of marrying her. The incident happened on Friday. They were neighbours of the girl.

The accused had been identified as Harpreet Singh, his father Tarsem Singh, mother Ninder Kaur, brother Yadwinder Singh and his wife Amandeep Kaur.

In her complaint to the Khemkaran police, the victim’s mother stated that one of the accused, Ninder Kaur, came to their house on Friday evening and took her daughter for facemask work. Then Ninder in connivance with other members of the family abducted her daughter and took her to some unknown destination.

The police said a case under Sections 363, 366-A and 120-B of the IPC had been registered against the accused.
