Three snatchers nabbed, gold jewellery & weapons recovered

The arrests were made in connection with an FIR registered on October 26 at the Cantonment police station under sections 308(2), 126(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The accused have been identified as Ranjit Singh alias Fauji, a resident of Rajinder Nagar, Amritsar; Palwinder Singh alias Bhinda, of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar; and Malkit Singh, a resident of Iban Kalan village, under the Chheharta police station jurisdiction.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Sirivenela said the trio was accused of robbing a family at knifepoint on October 26 near Palah Sahib Road, Amritsar. The victim, Sarvesh Kumar Chung, a native of Sri Ganganagar (Rajasthan) and currently residing in Green City, reported that the attackers fled with gold ornaments, cash and a mobile phone.
During the operation, police recovered a gold chain, three pairs of gold earrings, a gold ring, a silver ring and the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime. A ‘datar’ and a kirpan, both sharp-edged weapons, were also seized, while the stolen mobile phone is yet to be recovered.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused have extensive criminal backgrounds. Ranjit Singh alias Fauji has been previously booked in several cases under the NDPS Act and for robbery and snatching (Section 379B IPC) at various police stations, including Makboolpura and B-Division. Palwinder Singh alias Bhinda also faces multiple cases under the Arms Act and for attempt to murder and assault.
