The call given by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) to observe ‘Bharat Bandh’ evoked a good response here on Friday. The bandh disrupted normal life. People from all quarters supported the bandh in the district.

The roads wore a deserted look and public transport remained off the roads. Shops and other commercial establishments remained shut. However, the bandh could not affect the annual exams being conducted by the PSEB and the CBSE. No examinee reported to face harassment due to the bandh.

Various farmer organisations associated with the SKM organized dharnas in Tarn Taran, Patti, Bhikhiwind, on Kapurthala chowk in Goindwal Sahib, Jauneke and Chabal. Daljit Singh Dialpur, Pargat Singh Jamarai, Devinder Sohal, Nachhattar Singh, Seema Sohal (leader of Asha workers), Arsal Singh Sandhu and Balkar Valtoha, leaders of farmer organizations, condemned the Union Government for not implementing the demands of the farmers accepted to end the Delhi morcha three years ago.

They condemned the Union Government and the Haryana Government for allegedly repressing the farmers fighting for their rights. Employees, Asha workers, midday meal workers and others too participated in the demonstrations. There was a total bandh in Patti, Bhikhiwind, Khalra, Khemkaran, Harike, Chohla Sahib, Khadoor Sahib and other parts of the district.
