Traffic blocked to protest petrol pump worker’s killing in Talwara

Kulwant Singh, a resident of village Bhawanour falling under block Talwara, was shot dead by three unknown masked assailants while on duty at a petrol pump near village Khiranwali on Kapurthala-Goindwal road late on Saturday night. In protest, traffic was blocked on Talwara-Daulatpur road for about two hours. Dasuya MLA Karamveer Ghuman, former Dasuya MLA Arun Dogra Mikki and BJP leader Raghunath Singh Rana were also present on the occasion and joined the victim’s family in mourning the tragic incident.

Petrol pump owner Vikas Gupta, a resident of Kapurthala, had come to attend the last rites of the deceased Kulwant Singh. After the cremation, Vikas Gupta announced a fixed deposit of Rs 50,000 in the name of Kulwant Singh’s wife Rekha Rani, his two minor daughters and a six-year-old son, in addition to depositing Rs 1 lakh as financial assistance in Rekha Rani’s account. An agreement was signed in the presence of DSP Dasuya Balwinder Singh Joda, police station in-charge, Talwara, Harprem Singh and Sarpanch Navjeevan Thakur of village Bhawanour.

The family of deceased Kulwant Singh and villagers from the surrounding areas helped clear the traffic after the agreement was signed. It may be mentioned that Kulwant Singh was the only earning member of his family.

Sarpanch of village Bhawanour, Navjeevan Thakur said that Kulwant Singh is survived by his wife, two daughters (13 and 9 years old) and a six-year-old son. The Sarpanch also informed that Kulwant Singh’s elder brother Balwinder Singh is not in good health and has been on dialysis for the last two years. The protesters and family members of the deceased Kulwant Singh also demanded that the accused be arrested and awarded strict punishment.
