Tributes paid to Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra at state-level function

A state-level event was organised by Punjab government to mark the martyrdom day of Shaheed Madan Lal Dhingra at his memorial at Gol Bagh here on Saturday. The event was attended by Minister for Transport, Rural Development and Panchayat Laljit Singh Bhullar, and Minister for PWD and Power Harbhajan Singh ETO. Deputy Commissioner Ghansham Thori and Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon besides other officials were also present at the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhullar said that the country had attained freedom because of the sacrifices made by martyrs like Madan Lal Dhingra. He said that the young generation should take guidance from the path shown by the martyrs.
Bhullar and ETO also announced to give Rs 5 lakh each to the memorial for its renovation and upkeep.
Cabinet minister Harbhajan Singh ETO said that the government is committed to realising the dreams of the martyrs.
Addressing the event, Lakshmi Kanta Chawla, patron of Martyr Madan Lal Dhingra Memorial and former BJP minister, said people would continue to remember the great men and women who sacrificed their lives for a common cause for centuries to come. She said that as a mark of respect for the martyrs, it is the duty of every citizen to preserve the freedom given to us.
The students of BBK DAV College also staged a play on the life and sacrifice of the freedom fighter on the occasion.
