As many as 12 candidates filed their nomination papers for Tarn Taran Assembly by-election today. Akhil Bharatiya Shiv Sena Nationalist candidate Arun Kumar Khurmi, BJP covering candidate Sucha Singh, Indian National Congress covering candidate Leena Sandhu, Harpal Singh, Harbrinder Kaur, Komalpreet Singh, Neetu, Vijay Kumar, Mandeep Singh, Nirmal Kaur, Jaswant Singh (eight independent) and Nationalist Justice Party candidate Naib Singh filed their nomination papers with the Returning Officer-cum-SDM, Tarn Taran, on Saturday.

Earlier, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu, AAP covering candidate Rajesh Walia, BJP candidate Harjeet Singh Sandhu, Sachho Sach Party candidate Sham Lal Gandhi, Congress candidate Karanbir Singh Buraj, Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Sukhwinder Kaur and Shiromani Akali Dal covering candidate Kanchanpreet Kaur have also filed their nomination papers. Returning Officer Gurmeet Singh said that nomination papers for the by-election to the Tarn Taran assembly constituency can be filed till October 21.

Mandeep Singh, joint candidate of the 'Waras Punjab De' and other Sikh organisations, organised a roadshow from Gurdwara Baba Budha Sahib to the office of the SDM-cum-Returning Officer, Tarn Taran, before filing his nomination papers. Faridkot MP Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, Tarsem Singh, father of Amritpal Singh of Waris Punjab De (in Dibrugarh jail), were among those who accompanied the roadshow.

Harbarinder Kaur Usman too is among the candidates who filed their nomination papers.
