Amritsar: The rural police have booked two women for allegedly spreading misinformation. Both were identified as Raj Kaur of Chhidan village. The accused made a call to the Deputy Commissioner’s office that they have been hungry for the past two days and requested for the ration. ASI Balwinder Singh said Gurmit Singh, panchayat secretary, Chogawan block, informed that he got a call from the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The duo had told that their families were hungry as they did not have any food and urged the authorities to provide ration to them. The ASI said he along with the panchayat secretary visited their residences and found flour, grocery items and vegetables in their houses. Following this, a case under Sections 188, 269 and 505 of the IPC, Sections 52 and 54 of the Disaster Management Act was registered against them. Both of them escaped from their houses and therefore could not be arrested. TNS

Tarn Taran: The Patti police on Saturday booked head constable Harjinder Singh attached with Narinder Singh Dhaliwal, SDM, Patti, under Sections 7.13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and 269 of the IPC. Inspector Ajay Kumar, SHO, Patti, said a case had been registered on the basis of a video circulated on the social media in which he was seen taking bribe to issue curfew pass by the SDM office. He said the accused policeman had not been arrested as yet. OC

Man killed in road accident

Tarn Taran: Major Singh (42), a resident of Mattewal (Kairowal) village, was killed in a road accident on the Tarn Taran-Chabal road here on Saturday. The city police have registered a case under Sections 304-A, 279 and 338 of the IPC against the motorcyclist allegedly responsible for the accident. The police said Major Singh was coming back from Tarn Taran on his motorcycle when another bike hit him from the rear. Seriously injured Major Singh was admitted to the local Civil Hospital. He succumbed to the injuries at the hospital. The accused fled the spot. OC
