Two persons died in a road mishap when a speedy SUV hit a tractor-trolley from behind near Verka bypass road here today. Drivers of both the vehicles succumbed to their injuries. The deceased were identified as Sarwan Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran, and Manjinder Singh of Chogwan village. Sarwan Singh died on the spot after he was crushed under the tyre of his own trolley.

The police have initiated inquest proceedings in the case and launched further probe, said ASI Kuldeep Singh, the investigating officer in the case.

As per information, Sarwan Singh was driving the paddy-laden tractor-trolley and was heading for the Batala grain market, while Manjinder Singh was heading for his native village. The police said Manjinder tried to overtake the tractor-trolley but got hit on the driver's side and sustained critical injuries. Locals rushed him to the Civil Hospital where he succumbed, said ASI Kuldeep Singh
