Amritsar, January 23

They were travelling in a car and coming to Amritsar from Kakka Kandiala village in Tarn Taran. They were intercepted at a naka on the old Jandiala-Tarn Taran road.

The accused could not produce papers of the weapon and therefore a case under the Arms Act has been registered against them, said Gurinderbir Singh Sidhu, DSP, Jandiala Guru.

Preliminary probe revealed that the weapon confiscated from their possession was stolen from a gun house in Jandiala in June last year. As many as 68 weapon and huge quantity of ammunition was burgled from the gun house. The police had later nabbed an ITI student among four persons in the case. While majority of the weapons were recovered later on, a couple of pistols were yet to be recovered.

“Though it was yet to ascertain how they got the weapon, it was clear from the probe the weapon was stolen from the gun house,” said Sidhu. He said they were yet to ascertain the motive behind procuring the weapon. Further investigations were underway, he added.
