An undertrial lodged in Central Jail, Goindwal Sahib, died under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Jarnail Singh who was lodged in connection with a case under the NDPS Act and Excise Act on September 17.

ASI Jaswant Singh of Goindwal Sahib police said that a report under section 196 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been registered on the basis of the statement of Gurmeet Kaur, wife of the deceased. The postmortem was conducted at the local Civil Hospital on Wednesday. Gurmeet Kaur, in her statement, demanded that a case must be registered against the erring employees for the negligence shown in the death of her husband.
