The Health Department has sealed a desi ghee manufacturing unit and seized 368 kg spurious ghee from its premises along the Tarn Taran road here. Assistant Commissioner, Food Safety, Rajwinder Pal said they had collected samples of desi ghee from a shop near Gurdwara Shaheeda Sahib around a month ago.

“After the samples failed the quality test, we decided to inspect the manufacturing unit. On reaching there, we found that vanaspati ghee was being mixed with refined oil to make it look like desi ghee. Artificial essence was also added to it,” said the official.

The team seized 330 kg vanaspati ghee and refined oil from there, besides five kg essence. Official said the premises of GK Food Trading Company, which sold ghee under the brand name “Noor”, had been sealed.
