The Verka police have arrested an e-rickshaw driver of Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), identified as Imran Khan (45), with 1.59 kg of opium.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (East) Gurinderbir Singh said he was arrested from Mohan Nagar area falling under the Verka police station. On a tip-off, the cops on patrol intercepted the suspect. The man was frisked leading to seizure of the contraband from his possession.

He was produced in a court and brought on police remand for further investigation. The police said he did not have any previous criminal record.

“A preliminary probe revealed that he brought the opium from Bareilly and had delivered half of the opium to his brother-in-law Sabban and was going to the deliver the rest to some other person,” said the ACP. A case was registered against him.
