The incident has highlighted the need for enhanced security measures to protect healthcare professionals.
“This is a very disturbing incident and we are deeply concerned about the safety of our staff,” said a female employee at the hospital adding that such incidents are frequently reported. She added that hospital managements and government need to take concrete steps to ensure that health staff can work without fear of violence or intimidation.
The incident has sparked outrage among the medical community, with many calling for immediate action to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals. “We are not safe in our own workplace,” said a resident doctor at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, who wished to remain anonymous.
“We need better security measures, including CCTV cameras, security personnel and a clear protocol for handling violent situations. We are putting our lives at risk every time we come to work, the least we can expect is to be safe in our workplace,” he added.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the city. In the past, there have been several reported cases of unruly behavior by patients’ attendants, which have raised concerns about the safety and security of medical staff. Despite repeated demands for increased security, the issue still seems to be unresolved.
The recent incident has once again brought to the forefront the need for a comprehensive security plan to protect medical staff from such incidents. As the healthcare sector continues to play a vital role in society, it is imperative that the safety and security of medical staff are given top priority. The incident serves as a reminder that more needs to be done to ensure a safe working environment for healthcare professionals, particularly during night shifts.
