Woman dies by suicide, husband’s paternal uncle booked
A married woman reportedly died by suicide after consuming some poisonous substance at Khanwal village on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Manjot Kaur. The police have booked her husband’s paternal uncle, who has been absconding since the incident, on charges of abetment to suicide.
Satti, mother of the deceased and resident of Bhindi Saida, in her complaint to the police claimed that the accused used to quarrel with the victim and her husband over property. Giving details, she said she had three children and Manjot was the eldest among them. She was married to Manpreet Singh of Khanwal village five years ago. Manpreet and his younger brother Charanjit Singh were orphans and used to live with their uncle Mahinder Singh at their joint ancestral house in Khanwal.
She claimed that Mahinder Singh used to quarrel with Manpreet and Manjot Kaur over the division of the house and harass them. Manpreet had gone to work at Bhindi Saida on Thursday, when he received a call from Charanjit Singh that Mahinder Singh was quarrelling with Manjot Kaur, and perturbed over it, she reportedly consumed some poisonous substance, and that her health was deteriorating. She said they immediately rushed to Khanwal and took Manjot to hospital, but she died on the way.
The police authorities said following the complaint, a case had been registered under Section 108, BNS, against Mahinder Singh. Efforts were on to arrest him.
