The city police have booked three persons on the charge of abetment to suicide after a college teacher ended her life.

The victim hanged herself at a hostel room in the college complex on Tuesday. The police handed over the body to the family members after an autopsy.

The police have arrested a suspect, Amarjit Singh, in the case here on Friday. Besides, Amarjit’s son Jagjit Singh, alias Happy, of Rasulpur village and an unidentified person were also booked in this connection.

Amanjot Kaur, investigating officer, said further investigations were on while Amarjit Singh has been arrested. Efforts were being made to nab the other accused.

The victim, identified as Sukhjit Kaur, was reportedly a Punjabi teacher in Khalsa College for Women. The police said the family said she had been very upset for the past few days. The family came to know about the incident from the college authorities.

The police said as per initial investigation, Sukhjit reportedly had a friendship with Jagjit Singh and wanted to marry him. But he along with other accused had started harassing her.
