The deceased identified as Anil Kumar (23) was a native of Pilibhit in Uttar Pradesh. He used to operate a harvester combine which was hired by a farmer identified as Sabi for harvesting paddy. He had returned to his room after work when the armed assailants shot him. The police have registered a case in this connection.

Mohan Kumar, elder brother of the deceased, said he got information about the incident on Saturday night. Kumar said he arrived at Wadala Johal village yesterday morning. Anil had suffered a bullet injury in the stomach, he said. He succumbed to injury on Sunday evening, Kumar added.

Kumar said his brother was standing outside his room when two bike- borne persons arrived on the spot. When they tried to snatch his mobile phone Anil resisted their attempt and the suspects opened fire at him.

“The police should have identified the suspects and arrested them by now,” Kumar said while alleging that the police had failed to take any action.
