Voice of the city
We have been closely hearing the music played in all the cars touring the geri route of the city. Not that we have been spying on you or anything, but we did listen to three out of five cars play the recently released song King by Years & Years. So, here’s what the city folks have to say about the song.
Sing along
It is an interesting track and what I really like about it is the upswing mood it fills you with. Also, the basic dance trance vibe is very infectious.

Peppy number
Well, I really like the song. It is on my morning walk playlist only for the reason that it really peps me up. It’s very upbeat and pleasant to hear.

Trance zone
I love this song! For the last three days, this song has been playing in my car; on my ipod and even while I am gymming. It’s a really interesting mix of trance and pop music, and something that every 90s kid can relate to.

Formed in 2010, Years & Years are a British-Australian electronica trio founded in London. The group consists of frontman and keyboardist, Olly Alexander, bassist Mikey Goldsworthy and synth player Emre Turkmen. The music of the trio has been described as electropop, mixing R&B and ‘90s house elements, with Flying Lotus, Diplo, Radiohead and Jai Paul being their core influences. The band was formed in 2010 after Goldsworthy moved to the United Kingdom from Australia and met Turkmen online. Shortly afterwards, Alexander joined the band as lead vocalist after Goldsworthy heard him singing in the shower. The band was originally a five-piece group, with Noel Leeman and Olivier Subria. Leeman left the band in 2013.

Our take
On a finishing note, the song has already made it to number one on the UK Top 40 and it does have the nuances of 90s house and pop music, especially the vocals. Also, the sound loops are quite catchy. We say take this song to pep up your long shower, long geris and even gym workout. However, the lyrics won’t quite fit well for a date, but just in case you bump into your ex-girlfriend at a club, just dance to the song like it doesn’t matter and we are certain you’ll feel like a king!
