The state government has asked engineering institutes to keep 10 per cent seats of the sanctioned intake of Special Backward Classes (SBC) category vacant during the second counselling. The admission process is going on at present and the last date for admissions is August 15.
The admissions to all polytechnics and engineering colleges had been stalled after the uncertainty prevailed over the bifurcation of seats among various categories and quotas in the wake of Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision on Jat reservation in the last week of July.
The process of admission to diploma, B Tech, M Tech, MBA and MCA started on July 13 on the basis of entrance tests.
The first counselling had been conducted successfully and the students had already taken admissions in various institutions.
The choices for second counselling had also been filled through on-line process. It began on July 24. However, after the government’s directions, the results were uploaded on the website by the Haryana State Technical Education Society and students were asked to report to the institutions allotted to them up to August 15.
In the light of the High Court decision, the government has now issued directions to engineering institutes regarding reservation of the Special Backward Classes category seats for institute-level admission for under graduate and post graduate courses.
A letter from joint director, Haryana State Technical Education Society, said “In pursuance of the order of the High Court, the Haryana Government has directed that 10 per cent seats meant for the Special Backward Classes may be kept vacant for the time being during the counselling process as an interim measure to comply with the directions of the High Court.”
“The seats reserved for the SBC category will be kept vacant till further direction of the government. Therefore, any institute will not make admissions against Special Backward Classes category seats from second counselling onwards and 10 per cent seats will not be merged/ converted as open seats at any stage,” the letter reads.
The government directions further said the candidates of Special Backward Classes category would be considered for Haryana Open General Category.
