The Regional Tibetan Women’s Association and the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Dehradun, on Saturday organised a special prayer session on the 49th day of Buddhist leader Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche’s death. Rinpoche died under mysterious circumstances in prison on July 12.
Deckey Choedeon, who is the president of the Regional Tibetan Women’s Association (RTWA), said Tulku Tenzin Delek Rinpoche, who was a Buddhist monk, social worker and an environmentalist, was imprisoned by the Chinese authorities. She said he died under mysterious circumstances while serving a life imprisonment.
“Though a political prisoner, Tenzin was treated badly by the Chinese authorities. During 13 years of his stay in the prison, he was not allowed to meet his family members. Then the news about his death arrived. All of us suspect foul play,” said Choedeon.
Tibetan monks observed rituals and lit up 1,000 butter lamps in his memory today.
