Woman bank official foils kidnap bid
Hisar, May 18
Two youths today attempted to abduct a woman bank official after threatening her with a broken glass bottle outside her office at Tosham.
The victim, Ritu Singhal, an area manager at Punjab National Bank, countered the accused and raised the alarm. One of the youths was overpowered on the spot while another managed to escape.
The incident occurred when she returned to office after lunch time. When she was coming out of her car after parking it, two youths came to her with one of them carrying a broken glass bottle. He brandished the sharp-edged bottle while directing her to drive the car as per their instructions.
“I pushed one of them and raised the alarm. Some bystanders from the roadside and other staff members from the bank rushed towards her and managed to get hold of one of the youths. His accomplice, however, fled,” she said.
She immediately called up the police. She alleged that the police reached the spot after around half an hour.
Kuldeep Nain, SHO, Civil Lines police station, said the police had registered a case under Sections 393 (attempt to commit robbery), 365 (kidnapping) and 511 (attempt to commit offences) of the IPC against the two accused and arrested one of them. The arrested youth has been identified as Kuldeep, a resident of Bayanakhera village in the district. — TNS
