Abohar: A private medical practitioner has been booked for attempting rape on an 11-year-old girl. The victim’s father informed the Fazilka Sadar police that he went to Jaswinder Singh for consultation on Friday when he tried to rape his daughter. The girl ran out to escape. OC

23,800 tabs seized; 4 held

Sangrur: The police confiscated 23,800 habit-forming tablets and arrested four persons on Saturday night. Devinder Kumar and Jaspal Singh were held with 10,000 habit-forming tablets on Khadial road. Meanwhile, the Dirba police arrested Rajinder Singh and Sarbjit Singh with and seized 13,800 tablets, said ASI Satgur Singh. TNS

Former DGP remembered

Chandigarh: Punjab police officers, family members and well-wishers on Sunday paid tributes to late DGP CSR Reddy in a prayer meeting held at the Punjab Police Officers Institute, Chandigarh. DGP Dinkar Gupta said Reddy was an outstanding officer who made a rich contribution in the fight against terrorism in Punjab. Four nabbed for robberies

Abohar: Four persons, aged between 18 and 20 years, have been nabbed in Sriganganagar in connection with recent loot and theft incidents. Vijay Kumar, in charge of the Interstate Bus Terminal police station, said two bikers, Krishan Sharma and Jatinder Verma, were looted at gunpoint within an hour on September 14. An investigation led to the arrest of Sunny Nayak, Neeraj Maratha, Himanshu Sindhi and Ramesh Paswan. A few recoveries have been made. At least 50 bikes have been stolen in three months in Sriganganagar, but only six have been recovered, say sources. OC

Woman succumbs to burns

Abohar: A woman, who reportedly attempted to immolate self in her house in Sriganganagar about 10 days ago, died at PBM Hospital in Bikaner, the police said today. Kajal (23), who was married to Bal Chand Bhargava, belonged to Dhanbad district in Jharkhand. Her mother Pappu Devi, who arrived from Dhanbad, reportedly said that no one should be blamed for the incident as Kajal was upset, but did not share her problem. A subdivisional magistrate will conduct inquiry, the police said. OC
