Bathinda, January 14

A group of residents staged a protest against overflowing sewage at Arjun Nagar on Tuesday. They said though the Municipal Corporation had built toilets in the park, it failed to provide proper sewerage facility, resulting in accumulation of dirty water in the park.

Residents alleged they had been facing the problem of sewage overflow for the past around two years. They said: “We are facing a lot of problems due to choked sewerage of public toilet. It has become difficult to pass through affected streets.”

Lala Ram, Raj Karan, Jameel Khan, Ajay Sau, Malti Devi, Neha Devi, Hema Devi, Arti, Saroj Devi, among others, took part in the protest. They said their kids were also suffering as they could not play in the park, which was filled with dirty water.

Inderjeet said sewerage of the toilet had been lying choked for a long time. Despite our repeated requests, the authorities paid no attention to the issue. Dirty water had accumulated in the park in our locality, causing a lot of inconvenience.

The protesters demanded that officials concerned take the issue seriously and clean the blockage.
