Bathinda: A dead body was found in the Sirhind Canal here this morning. As soon as a local NGO, Sahara Jansewa, got information in this regard, its volunteers Sandeep Goyal, Mani Sharma and Sandeep reached the spot and found a body floating on water in the canal. They informed the police control room, after which Kotwali SHO Davinder Singh, along with a police party, reached the spot. The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Singh (27), a resident of Joganand village in the district. On February 15, a motorcycle was recovered near Joganand village, but its rider was not found. Even a search had been on for the last two days. This morning, his body was recovered and sent to the Civil Hospital for a postmortem. After recording the statements of the family members of the victim, the police have registered a case under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure. TNS

Arms dealer arrested

Muktsar: The Muktsar police have arrested an arms dealer for allegedly selling cartridges to persons not having arms licence. The police said acting on a tip off, a raid was conducted at Doomra Gun House, near vegetable market here. A case under the Arms Act was registered against Ankur Doomra. TNS
