Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot unfurled the national flag at the district-level Republic Day function organised here on Sunday.

He said the state government had approved Rs 300 crore for the development of 300 villages, where Guru Nanak Dev had visited. These villages also included Sarainaga village in Muktsar district, he said.

He further informed the gathering about the welfare and social welfare schemes of the state government and benefits given in the last about three years. Senior officials of the civil administration, the police and some Congress leaders were also present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, some videos went viral on social media claiming that Dharamsot got confused about the Republic Day and Independence Day in his speech. However, officials in the district administration said the minister had well described the importance of both the days.
