Guru Kashi University announces Prof Puran Singh Research Award

Authorities of the Guru Kashi University (GKU) held a press conference at the Bathinda Press Club on Monday. During the meet, the authorities said they would be conferring a commemorative award in the memory of Prof Puran Singh. The award will be conferred to a scientist for publishing best research paper in the field of plant sciences.

GKU vice-chancellor Dr Gursharn Singh Randhawa said, “Punjab Agricultural University Prof Dr Jagdeep Singh Sandhu will be awarded with Prof Puran Singh Research Award for his outstanding contribution in the field of plant sciences.”

Dr Randhawa said, “The award will be carrying a cash reward worth Rs 1,00,000 and an appreciation letter to recognise the contribution of Dr Sandhu. Most people know Prof Puran Singh as a poet and a writer but very few know that he was also a great scientist. He made many discoveries in the field of plant sciences and published research papers of national and international repute. On his 139th birth anniversary, the GKU has announced this commemorative award. I believe this award would encourage many other scientists to work with more zeal and interest.” At the event, contributions of Professor Puran Singh in the fields of science and literature were also discussed in detail by the university officials.
