Manjit Singh Rai, member, National Commission for Minorities (NCM), on Monday held a meeting with officials of the district administration here and urged them to ensure that maximum people avail the benefits of schemes launched by the Central Government.

He further asked the authorities to put up some boards about the schemes available for minorities, like scholarship being given to the students.

Rai asked the police officers present in the meeting to keep a check on rumours related to minorities being spread on social media.

He also held a meeting with representatives of the minority communities in the town.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
