The abductors, however, managed to flee before the police reached the spot.
Gurpiyar Singh was reportedly abducted on Tuesday evening by a group of men dressed as Nihangs over a dispute related to a financial transaction. Acting on a complaint by his family, the Mohali CIA staff launched a search operation to trace him.
During the investigation, the Faridkot police received information that the kidnapped journalist had been taken to a gurdwara in Kotkapura, where he was allegedly being beaten. A police team immediately rushed to the location, but the suspects escaped before they could be apprehended. The police managed to rescue the journalist, who had sustained minor injuries.
Gurpiyar Singh has been provided medical treatment and is currently under police protection at the Kotkapura (City) police station.
Senior police officials from Faridkot districts confirmed the rescue, but said no official statement had yet been issued regarding the motive or the identities of the kidnappers.
