Muktsar police recover 1,060 lost, stolen mobile phones worth over Rs 2 cr, returned to owners

Muktsar district police have recovered as many as 1,060 stolen and lost mobile phones worth over Rs 2 crore in the last two-and-a-half years and handed them back to their rightful owners.

SSP Akhil Chaudhary informed that since January 1, 2023, these phones were traced with the help of the Technical Cell and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.

In the latest drive, the district police traced 112 lost mobile phones and returned them to their owners during a special event held at the district police lines. The operation was led by the Technical Cell team, including DSP (Headquarters) Amandeep Singh and Sub-Inspector Harpreet Kaur.

The SSP said, “We receive numerous complaints about lost and stolen phones. Each case is carefully followed up using technology, and whenever a device is found active, it is traced and recovered.”

He urged the public to report lost phones at the nearest police Sanjh Kendra or police station with details such as the brand, IMEI number, and last used SIM. He also appealed to the public to hand over any lost or stolen mobile phone found, instead of using it, at the nearest police station.

The recovered phones brought wide smiles to the faces of their owners.
