After the blood-soaked body of Shiv Kumar Shiva, district youth president of the Shiv Sena, Punjab, was identified last evening, almost a week after it was found, his family and the party leaders alleged that he was murdered.

The police had on December 6 found the unidentified body under mysterious circumstances from Bura Gujjar Road here.

As the body remained unidentified for several days, members of an NGO were preparing to cremate it on Thursday, when the family, somehow, learned about it and recognised it as of Shiva.

State Shiv Sena president Rajesh Garg claimed that on December 5, a youth had taken Shiva from his house around 2 pm. "During a protest in front of the bus stand on June 11 this year, we, including Shiva, clashed with a youth who had tried to run a car over us. A case was registered against us, and we had been receiving continuous threats. Shiva was murdered due to this rivalry," Garg said.

The police have booked Raman, Nikku and Ankush, all residents of Muktsar, in the case.

DSP Bachan Singh said the exact cause of the death would be ascertained only after the post-mortem.
