Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsThe key conspirator in the murder of influencer Kanchan Kumari, aka Kamal Kaur Bhabhi — Amritpal Singh Mehron, a self-styled vigilante — today released a video on social media, issuing a threat to content creators "who are spreading vulgarity” online.
In the video, which has since gone viral, Amritpal — whose associates Nimaratjeet Singh and Jaspreet Singh have been arrested in connection with Kanchan’s murder — stated, “I have no personal enmity with anyone. But, if those circulating such videos on social media don’t delete them within two-three days and their families don’t seek an apology from the Panth and Punjab, then see what happens. I will not take a step back.”
Claiming to act in defense of Sikh values, he said, “Kanchan Kumari came from UP or Bihar. She has no right to use ‘Kaur’ as surname and spread vulgarity. What happened now should have happened five years ago. She has got the result of her sins. Sikhs have made countless sacrifices, but people like her are undermining those sacrifices.”
Mehron also admitted that his associates have been named in the murder case and vowed to fight their legal battle. “Our car has also been impounded,” he added.
Speaking further in the video, he said his team would now approach all influencers spreading “double-meaning content, nudity, and vulgarity”, and either appeal to them to stop or “teach them a lesson”.
In a particularly controversial statement, Mehron said, “Whatever I say, I stand by it. Don’t you feel ashamed watching those videos? Kanchan herself had once apologised to me by going live on social media. She had received threats from gangsters. I had treated her like a sister and had also given her Rs 1.5 lakh to help with her father’s cancer treatment.”
The video also includes offensive remarks about migrants and a pointed message to another Amritsar-based social media influencer, Deepika Luthra, warning her to refrain from posting similar content. “There are many parking lots, not just one in Bathinda. And it is not necessary that the body will be found every time,” he said.

Meanwhile, the authorities have taken note of the video. While the investigation into Kanchan Kumari’s murder is ongoing, police officials are examining the contents of Mehron’s statement, which many see as a direct threat and an attempt to justify violence in the name of culture and morality.
