A one-day national seminar on ‘Guru Nanak’s Philosophy in the 21st Century: Challenging the Hierarchies’ was organised at Panjab University Constituent College, Sikhwala village, on Saturday. The seminar was sponsored by the ICSSR.

Jaswant Zafar, eminent Punjabi poet, delivered the keynote address. He stressed upon the need to envisage the true picture of Guru Nanak who refutes various hierarchies.

Dr Jagwinder Jodha, Punjabi poet, critic and academician, opined that the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak was an apt occasion to revisit his thought and philosophy.

He tried to decipher Guru Nanak’s thought with reference to Marxism. He said Guru Nanak challenged the authority of the three institutions — family, state and God.

Dr Sumail Singh Sidhu drew attention to the modification of Guru Nanak’s philosophy by various people to suit their needs. He underlined the ways in which protest was well imbibed in the Sikh thought.
