Shaheen Bagh-like protest in Mansa to oppose CAA, NRC

Members of the Samvidhan Bachao Manch have begun an indefinite protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and the NRC in Mansa. A large number of protesters gathered at the protest venue and raised slogans against the Union Government.

The protesters said they had been staging an indefinite protest on the pattern of the Shaheen Bagh agitation. Notably, members of various unions are part of the Sanvidhan Bachao Manch.

Mahinder Singh, president of the BKU Ekta Dakonda, said, “Our organisation has been working in tandem with other mass organisations all across the state for the rollback of the law. It divides people on communal and sectarian lines. Our struggle will continue till the government takes back the law.”

Gurlabh Singh, a leader of the union, said, “The protest starts daily at 12 pm and adequate arrangements have been made to provide food to the protesters. Many people have been showing a keen interest in our manch, especially youth. They have decided to come out against the CAA.”

He said, “The Union Government has constantly been attacking higher academic institutions and universities. With privatisation of the education sector, students will be deprived of education.”
