The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Dinesh Kumar sentenced six persons to life imprisonment for murdering Sukhchain Singh, a 21-year-old Dalit youth of Ghanrangana village, in Mansa district, here on Saturday.

On Friday, the court held six persons Balvir Singh Kala, Babrik Singh alias Bittu, Hardeep Singh alias Kala, Sadhu Singh, Amandeep Singh alias Bittu and Sita Singh guilty in the case. According to information, the convicts have been sentenced to life imprisonment under Section 302 and for one-year each under Sections 148 of the IPC. They have also been slapped with a fine of Rs30,000 each. In case of failure to pay the fine, they will have to undergo imprisonment of three months extra.

It is pertinent to mention that three years ago, on October 10, Sukhchain Singh was waylaid, pulled out of his SUV and killed. His limbs were later chopped off.

Political parties had staged huge protest at Civil Hospital Mansa against the then SAD government, in which senior leaders of various politcial parties had taken part. CPI (ML) Liberation leader Amrik Samao, All India Student Assocation state leader Pardeep Gugu on Saturday met advocate Jaswant Singh Grewal, who fought the case for Sukhchian and congratulated him.

Sukhchain Singh’s parents, however, said those who murdered their son mercilessly deserved to be hanged till death.
