Cop nabs 3 thieves after six-km chase

In a display of bravery, a Delhi Police Constable, Kartar Yadav, overpowered three thieves after chasing them for six kms on a bike. During the pursuit, he suffered a fracture on his right hand and head injury.

The incident took place late on Thursday night in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar.

Yadav said while he was on patrolling duty in the area, he saw three suspicious persons riding a motorcycle. When they were signalled to stop, the trio tried to flee.

The cop started chasing them on his patrolling motorcycle towards Khel Gaon in the Hauz Khas area. During the chase, he rammed his bike into theirs, causing them to fall.

As soon as the suspects fell off their motorcycle, they attacked the cop with an iron rod and screw driver. Fortunately, Yadav was wearing a helmet, which protected him.

The cop first fired a shot in the air. When the suspects tried to flee again, he shot one of them in the leg. With the help of security guards, he managed to apprehend all three accused. A purported video of Yadav’s heroic act also surfaced.

The accused were identified as Sikandar, who already has 14 cases registered against him, and his accomplices, Darshan Singh and Bijender Singh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said the accused reached Delhi a few days ago and used to target locked houses.

After committing thefts, they would flee back to their respective home states. During the search of their bags, the police recovered tools used for breaking into homes.
