Having witnessed subdued sales in September this year, passenger vehicle makers are banking on the festive season for an uptick in demand. Like previous months, SUVs continues to steer passenger vehicle wholesales, with a majority of the manufacturers having wide SUVs portfolio witnessing a positive growth in dispatches despite low market sentiments.

Maruti Suzuki has registered domestic PV sales of 1,44,962 units, compared to 1,50,812 units in September last year, witnessing a decline of 4 percent. Maruti Suzuki’s UV range, which includes Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and Jimny, saw a marginal growth of 3.8 per cent. Passenger cars (mini and compact segment) such as Alto, S Presso, Baleno, Dzire, Swift and Wagon R, however, witnessed a decline of 12.4 per cent. Hyundai Motor India registered sales of 51,101 units in September 2024, compared to the 54,241 in September 2023, witnessing a decline of 6.14 per cent. For Hyundai, its SUV sales accounted for 70 per cent sales last month.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) managed to beat Tata Motors in terms of passenger car sales in September 2024.

Tata Motors sales were down 8 per cent this September compared to a year ago, when Tata sold 44,809 units. M&M, however, witnessed a growth of 24 per cent.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
