The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Monday announced a one-day extension for the filing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the AY 2025-26. The due date, previously extended from July 31, to September 15, has now been further extended to September 16 (Tuesday), providing taxpayers with additional time to comply with their filing obligations.

Taxpayers have been urged to utilise the additional time to ensure accurate and timely filing. They are advised to plan their submissions accordingly to avoid any disruptions.

The Income Tax Department on Monday said over 7 crore I-T returns had been filed as the filing deadline closed in, amid netizens complaining of glitches on the portal and demanding an extension.
