Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday said that the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) has become a powerful tool of women empowerment, benefiting more than 10 crore families since its launch nine years ago.

The flagship scheme, which was launched by the PM on May 1, 2016 from Uttar Pradesh’s Ballia district, aims to provide clean cooking fuel to rural and economically weaker households by replacing traditional fuels such as wood, coal and cow dung cakes.
