The Ministry of Finance on Monday reiterated that there was no proposal to impose transaction charges on Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions.

The Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, informed the Lok Sabha that there was no such proposal under consideration, thus reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting digital payments across India.

UPI, managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has revolutionised financial transactions, enabling seamless, instant payments for millions of users.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
