Retail inflation eases to 1.54% in September

The retail inflation eased to 1.54 per cent in September, lowest since June 2017, due to a sharper disinflation in food and beverages to 1.4 per cent, according to data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation. The retail inflation was recorded 1.46 per cent in June 2017.
The retail inflation in September recorded a decrease of 53 basis points in comparison to August, the data showed. The food inflation was recorded -2.28 per cent. A decrease of 164 basis points was observed in food inflation in September in comparison to August. The food inflation in September is the lowest after December, 2018, the ministry said.

"The decline in headline inflation and food inflation in September 2025 is mainly attributed to favourable base effect and decline in inflation of vegetables, oil and fats, fruits, pulses, etc," it said.
