Most-sought after registration number ‘0001’, of the CH01CX series, was sold for Rs 20.70 lakh in an auction held by the Registering and Licensing Authority.

A total of 382 numbers (fancy and choice) of the new series CH01CX from 0001 to 9999, along with leftover special numbers of previous series were auctioned, which earned the authority Rs 1.92 crore. The registration number CH01-CX-0007 fetched the second-highest amount of Rs 8.90 lakh. Also, 0005 of the same series was auctioned for Rs 8.11 lakh, 0009 for Rs 7.99 lakh, 9999 for Rs 6.01 lakh, 0004 for Rs 4.91 lakh, 0006 for Rs 4.71 lakh, 0003 for Rs 4.61 lakh, 0008 for Rs 4.61 lakh and 0002 for Rs 3.71 lakh.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
