The RTA Assistant Secretary, Shammi Sharma, said the checks were a part of the Safe School Vehicle Policy, aimed to ensure the safe commute for schoolchildren.
A team comprising Motor Vehicle Inspector Brijesh, Transport Inspectors Subhash, Mohit Lakra and Ravinder, along with Transport Sub-Inspector Sandeep, carried out the inspections.
During the checking, 10 school buses were found lacking first-aid kits, had expired fitness certificates or lapsed insurance. Three of these buses were subsequently impounded.
“It is mandatory for all school buses to adhere strictly to the prescribed safety standards. Any compromise on children’s safety will not be tolerated. School operators have been instructed to ensure that their buses operate strictly in accordance with the Safe Vehicle Policy,” Sharma added.
He further added that inspections of school buses would continue across Panchkula under the on-going campaign.
