According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP, Traffic) Sukar Pal Singh, over the past three days, more than 1,600 drivers were screened at these checkpoints. Of these, 102 were found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and were immediately issued challans.

In two of the most severe cases, where drivers were found to have consumed alcohol in large quantities, vehicles were impounded on the spot.

The checks, meanwhile, are being conducted not only on private vehicles but also on heavy vehicles such as trucks and others, using breathalysers for accurate detection.

Notably, drink driving combined with speeding is one of the leading causes of serious road accidents. The Panchkula Police are taking a hard stance not just to enforce the law, but also to educate the public about the importance of road safety.

The ongoing operation, according to the police, is aimed at both punishing violators and raising awareness among citizens to adopt responsible driving habits.
