11,889 traffic challans disposed of amid heavy rush at District Courts in Chandigarh

Heavy rush was witnessed at the District Courts in Sector 43 here today for paying traffic challans during the National Lok Adalat.

Long queues were witnessed on the premises as a large number of residents turned up to pay their traffic challans. The National Lok Adalat disposed of a total of 14,000 cases, which included 11,889 traffic challans involving an amount of Rs 78.58 lakh. Thirteen Benches headed by Judicial Officers were constituted for taking up criminal compoundable cases of Section 138 of NI Act, bank recovery, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, matrimonial disputes, labour disputes, arbitration matters, civil and municipal matters, and traffic challans. These were disposed of with the consent of the respective parties.

Giving relief to residents, fine in over 300 traffic challan cases was waived after the violators explained before the courts why they should not be challaned. Elaborate arrangements were made by the authorities for a quick disposal of cases. Long queues were witnessed outside the counters set up for receiving the challans. Every court set up for taking up such cases was jam-packed with people.

A number of residents used the QR code facility for paying their challans. The traffic challan cases have increased manifold in the city after the installation of CCTV cameras at every light point.
