Twelve candidates filed their papers at the administrative complex, Panchkula, and 10 at Kalka. Congress candidate Chandar Mohan held a roadshow before filing his papers. Aam Aadmi Party candidate Prem Garg, JJP nominee Sushil Garg, Bhartiya Vir Dal candidate Bharat Bhushan, Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD) Shitij Chaudhary and four Independents — Mahabir Prasad Sharma, Gurtej Singh, Saroj Bala and Natasha Sood — also filed their nomination papers.
A large number of people participated in Chander Mohan’s roadshow. The roads from his residence up to the district administrative complex remained choked with traffic. The former Deputy CM was accompanied by his wife Seema, son Siddharth, daughter-in-law and grandson as he filed his papers.
While talking to mediapersons, Chander Mohan said the BJP government failed to carry out people-centric works in the past 10 years in the state. “The most important matter in the state today is increasing unemployment. Be it issues of sanitation and waste management, stray cattle and dogs, electricity supply and management of public places, they have failed on all fronts. We will soon issue an election manifesto.”
Candidate of JJP and serving MC councillor Sushil Garg also filed his papers today. Garg said he wanted to develop Panchkula on the lines of Chandigarh. He had raised all matters concerning the public during his tenure as councillor, adding that “We will put up a strong fight and win the seat.”
Advocate Bharat Bhushan said there was no university in Panchkula and corruption was rampant. “We want to raise the concerns of the poor and destitute,” he added.
The Panchkula Assembly constituency will witness a contest between BJP’s Gian Chand Gupta, Congress candidate Chander Mohan, Aam Aadmi Party candidate Prem Garg, JJP’s Sushil Garg, Advocate Bharat Bhushan of Bhartiya Vir Dal, Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD) Shitij Chaudhary, Kishan Singh Negi of Right to Recall Party and four Independents Mahabir Prasad Sharma, Gurtej Singh, Saroj Bala and Natasha Sood.
In Kalka, BJP’s Shakti Rani Sharma, Congress candidate Pradeep Chaudhary, Jannayak Janata Party’s Balbir Kumar, Rashtriya Janlok Party candidate Charan Singh, Aam Aadmi Party nominee Om Prakash Gurjar, Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Charan Singh and Independents Geeta Devi, Amit Sharma, Vishal, Preeti and Chatar Singh are in the contest.
