The Department of Rural Development and Panchayats today freed 125 acres under ‘illegal possession’ of around 12 owners in Siswan village of the Majri block. Officials handed over the possession of 125 acres to gram panchayat.

Armed with ADC orders and led by Tehsildar, BDPO, heavy police force and earth moving machines, officials undertook the operation at several places. They removed fences, uprooted trees and levelled land at some places before erecting boards, claiming the land to be a property of the gram panchayat. ‘Encroachments’ were also removed near the farmhouse of a well-known political leader.

The police said the operation was carried out peacefully. On April 28, the department had launched a drive and freed 29 acres of panchayat land worth crores from ‘encroachers’ at Abhipur village in Majri block.
