Holi: 1,300 cops to keep hooligans in check in Chandigarh

Nearly 1,300 police personnel will be deployed across the city to ensure peaceful Holi celebrations. The deployment will include 10 DSPs, 16 SHOs, 27 Inspectors and around 1,300 police personnel.

The “Gerhi Route”, from Sector 11 to a small chowk on the road separating Sectors 9 and 10, will be designated as a limited vehicle zone. Security arrangements will also be strengthened at key locations such as Sukhna Lake, Elante Mall and the busy markets of Sectors 15, 17, 20, 22, 34, 35 and 36 to keep hooligans in check.

To ensure public safety, PCR patrolling will be intensified around educational institutions, including Panjab University and local colleges. Additionally, motorcycle teams will patrol colony areas.

Special police deployment will be made at Ram Darbar, Kajheri, Bapu Dham Colony, Maloya and Sector 56.

Around 100 checkpoints (nakas) will be set up at different locations. Additionally, drunken driving nakas will also be put up across the city.

A special drive will be conducted to curb eve-teasing, hooliganism and public drinking, a police official stated.
