The Chandigarh Police has filed a charge-sheet against 16 former office-bearers of Ajanta Cooperative House Building Society Ltd, Sector 51-D, Chandigarh, in a six-year-old fraud and cheating case. It has been filed under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC.

The police had registered the case in 2018 on a complaint filed by a person Gurmukh Singh Lehal. He had told the police that he was the member of the Ajanta Society, which was allotted land in Sector 51-D, Chandigarh, in 2002 to construct dwelling units, in which he owns a category-A flat.

He claimed that over 150 society members, including him, from 2002 to 2006 paid complete cost of land and building to the society. He alleged that the funds collected from the members were mismanaged and the services for which they were meant were not provided.

In February 2008, the society without completing the project offered the physical possession of the flats despite not having completion and occupation certificates and sewerage connection.
