A Mohali cop was suspended and a departmental inquiry initiated against him after he and his friends were booked in an attempt to murder case.

The accused, Raman Kumar, allegedly indulged in a brawl with a bouncer, Barinder Kumar, 31-year-old resident of Kaimbwala, at a Chandigarh mall around 3:30 am on Thursday.

The complainant, Sumit Rana, a friend of the victim, said Raman and his friend attacked Barinder with sharp weapons after an altercation over shooting a video.

The victim sustained serious injuries to his head and arm. One of his thumbs was severed in the attack. He was admitted to a private hospital in Sector 33.

The police officials said the accused is absconding.

A case, meanwhile, has been registered at the Chandigarh Industrial Area police station.
